The aim of working on the Committed Employees Index is to clarify goals all the way from the organisation's senior management, via its areas of operation to individual groups and, eventually, to the individual employee's goals. By working on clarifying the goals and, at the same time, removing obstacles in the way of people's in-built energy and will to perform, you gradually get the whole organisation to work towards the same goals.
With the help of Netsurvey's analysis and assessment, "Committed Employees", you can easily monitor how high the level of commitment is among your workforce, where the most committed employees are working within the organisation, and which strategically important work groups are the ones showing high levels of commitment.
A high level of commitment, i.e. where individual people have clear goals and high levels of energy, creates profitability in the organisation.
What is a committed employee?
A committed employee works with great enthusiasm towards a clear goal which is also in line with the company's overarching goals. In the short term, an employee may have high levels of energy but a goal which is unclear, which means that the organisation is not utilising that person's full capacity. In the long term, this can lead to that energy being lost. At the same time, our studies show that others know very well what they are meant to be doing, but lack the energy to carry out that work in full. This isn't sustainable either.
What you get with Netsurvey's Committed Employees Index - matrix and reports
The Committed Employee Index consists, partly of a matrix which includes an overview of how clear the goals are, and how much energy the different result units that you are measuring have, partly of reports to each department. In the summary, the Committed Employee matrix, you can look more closely, for example, at the internal business departments and different functions. The matrix is divided up into the clarity of the goals on one axis, and energy on the other. Each department included in the study receives its own report on the group's commitment.
Reports from Committed Employees Index on the background variables and reporting to your managers
Commitment is also reported on an overarching basis on the background variables, such as, for example, year of recruitment, level of training, age and gender, if this is required. The different forms of analysis are intended to show as accurately as possible where your committed employees are and where your organisation has to raise commitment in order to attain your common goals.
Managers with responsibility for personnel receive a report which shows strengths and areas for improvement in order to strengthen the commitment in their own group. You get a tool for follow up which includes a clear process for feedback. In the follow up tool, the managers’ work to a well tested structure with feedback. The aim is to utilise strengths, areas for improvement and develop actions for increased commitment. In the follow up tool, you can follow, from an overarching viewpoint, which areas are prioirities and which actions are being carried out in the organisation.
The basic working climate should be in place before your start working on Committed Employees
Netsurvey's Committed Employees Index is good to use as a measuring tool when your organisation has a satisfactory workplace climate, i.e. an ESI of 100*), a workplace climate which does not affect profitability. When the groups are free of conflict, when there is good feedback between managers and employees, respect is shown and delegation works, it is time for the next step: Increasing commitment among the workforce.
An organisation has different needs in different areas in terms of increasing commitment
The state of the workplace climate in the organisation differs between areas of operation and in different work groups. In work groups which are shown to have a satisfactory workplace climate, your organisation can begin work on increasing commitment. In other parts, we recommend that your work on the basic workplace climate first.
The Committed Employees Index from a leadership perspective
It is usually simple to gain the ear of the senior management in terms of commitment issues, as there are many links between the senior management's strategic agenda and the commitment of individuals. With Netsurvey's analysis models, you can easily see how commitment is affecting different strategic priorities, which often leads to intensive and interesting discussions.
The background to Netsurvey's Committed Employees Index
Netsurvey's analysis of profitability in 50 companies over three years revealed a long disputed issue. Satisfaction is not a factor which drives profitability, but commitment most certainly is. Therefore, Netsurvey's Committed Employee Index measures in a way which focuses more on the proportion of committed employees (i.e. very high values) rather than the proportion of satisfied or unsatisfied employees. The other dimension in Netsurvey's Committed Employees Index is clarity; whether all goals point in the same direction and are well known. An organisation with enthusiastic employees who are all pulling in the same direction is not just successful; it is also an organisation which is attractive as an employer.
*) ESI = Employee Satisfaction Index. 100 is the maximum score.
